MMA Gets 1st Major TV Network Deal With New CBS Contract
DATE: 02/28/2008 15:07:56 / MOOD: happy
Mixed martial arts will air on one of the major television
networks for the first time. CBS announced a deal Thursday with ProElite, which produces MMA events, to
broadcast in prime time a sport that has been growing in popularity. The plan is to televise two-hour live specials four times a year on Saturday nights. ProElite CEO Douglas DeLuca called it a "pivotal moment for the sport." ProElite already produces MMA events for its EliteXC fight division on the Showtime cable channel, which is owned by CBS. "Mixed martial arts is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and a wildly popular entertainment vehicle for upscale, young adult audiences," Kelly Kahl, CBS Primetime's senior executive vice president, said in a release.

Kim Couture's debut to air on HDNet Fights
DATE: 02/14/2008 11:40:34 / MOOD: don't know
Sure, there's been plenty of WWE talk 'round these parts lately, but we're making sure MMA fanatics aren't left in the cold, either. Later this month, HDNet Fights will exclusively air the debut of Kim Couture, who, if you couldn't surmise, is the wife of famed MMA legend Randy "The Natural" Couture. The event is slated to take place at the Xtreme Couture Gym in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 29th directly after the network's LIVE IFL event. If that just seems too far away, feel free to catch Mrs. Couture (and her hubby) on Inside MMA this Friday at 9:30PM (also on HDNet).
