Should Elbow's be aloud in MMA?
Posted On: 12/15/2007 08:19:21
At around 10pm CST, I caught "Lou Neglia's Ring of Combat"; Beast of the East. on HDNet.  In the main event, two very tough competitors (sorry guys - forget your names and Neglia's site has not been updated), had an awesome, technical battle goin on.  Both appeared to have won a round, but the third never got started due to a nasty cut over the right eye of a fighter.  In my opinion, the fight definitely should have been stopped, but you have to wonder if elbows should be allowed during a ground and pound session by the fighter on top.  Wouldn't we rather see them fight it out, and win, using their skills?  If they are in such a dominant position anyway, why not just make it illegal to drop elbows?

The thought of using elbows is a very interesting question. I believe there are two minds of thought on this. First the purest, who wants to see the skill level needed to achieve victory. Second, the realist, who wants to use every weapon availiable to them. I think that each has it merit, but due to the thirst of the average fan and the economics of the business elbows will continue to be thrown.
