Top-heavy
Posted On 02/22/2008 21:49:26 by TomPalmer

Been so wound up with new opportunities in work this week, I showed up with a neck so stiff I could barely bend it.  Took a while just to warm up by gentle rolling.

When I could move around a little, I wound up getting impatient, going for an ineffective offensive move or a half-baked defensive move and losing position big-time.

I asked my sempai afterwards what I was doing wrong, and his answer was: arms out & all over the place.  So that was it - I was all kinds of top-heavy, trying to reach out for control.  In doing so, I'm sure that's when I would get tossed and lead into the ground & hon-kesa'd left and right.

So my mantra for training next time is going to be:

- Always be in my cone of strength

- Move the body as one unit

- Patience patience patience!

Can't ever emphasize cone enough! I would add relaxation, but you probably subsume that in "patience."
