A thought came to me last night as I was watching the UFC 79. Is it better to be great at one thing? Whether it is stand up or ground fighting. Or is it better to be just good at both. What is your opinion?
I guess that depends on your position regarding the study of martial arts. If you dedicate your life to the study of martial arts, you can chose your path or form(s) to train/teach in. You can be a great purist, dedicating your time to one style, or, you can cross train. In my opinion, being great is one thing, winning in tournaments like the UFC is another. So - it's "better" that you cross train if you are going into a MMA ring, but that doesn't mean it's better than being a purist.
