Blog Entry: Went training last night,it was alright, necks in a bad way though but i'll tell you more about that in a minute. It was hard, started off with some light sparring(no takedowns or submissions so kickboxing i suppose)which was good and was for the warm up.in amongst this sparring i was sparring with a newish guy to our gym called Ali,real nice guy,86kg,big and very very strong and powerful with a very good wrestling background, well as we're sparring i drop my head to avoid a punch he grabs my head pulls it in towards his stomach and lifts my body upside down by the neck and wouldn't you know it,pop goes something in the neck,it was the weirdest neck crank ever,i ended up in like a tombstone position but with my legs horrizontal instead of vertical, muust have looked well funny but certainly didn't feel funny!!!Then later on i'm doing some guard work with the same guy and the neck gets cranked again, oops, ouch!!!Let me explain something about this guy,I don't think he means what he's doing,he just doesn't know the meaning of going lite, everything's pretty much all or nothing but that's just the way he is!!!Danny the coach got it in a nutshell.....Ali,i don't think you've got a technique to anything,i think it's just raw power, you grab something and pull it or squeeze it as hard as you can.....sort of says it all. When this kid gets in the cage he's going to be an absolute beast,i swear he's going to pop someone's head right off there shoulders. He's going to be unstoppable!!!!Rock on Ali but watch my neck son, keep the cranks for the cage!!! Mostly last night was about guard work and it was a realy good session. The one thing i did notice last night was how everyone seemed to be more aggressive in there training,or is it just that i'm going too light,i don't want to hurt people in the gym but i do want to learn things, maybe it's just me being too easy going!!!!! Another thing i learned last night was how pointless me sparring with the bigger guys was, once they're on top of me there was no shifting them, not even a millimeter and that was frustrating to say the least,at one point i was in a crucifix position with Ali and there was just nothing i could do except take shots to the head, now i know how Matt the great Hughes's opponents felt, bad position, especially if you can't get them off!!!! So overall, good session but very frustrating for me at times but i suppose that's all part of the learning process!!!!Today i'm going to start back in the weights gym for the first time 11 months, stopping that was a big mistake,i feel like all of my strength has just deserted me.Why did i give it up i hear you ask???Well before i started this i was a keen weght trainer and had built my frame up to an impressive 14 stone of solid muscle but my natural weight was 12 and a half stone,(80kg)The big lads were natural at that weight but i had to work hard to stay there and i felt sluggish and slow in the mma gym so i decideed to fight at my natural weight and lose the weight so i had to stop the weights and concentrate on cardio, well now i'm real fit but with no strength so now i'm going to have to combine the 2!!!I'll let you know how i do,and tonight i'm off to staight blast gym to train,Peace and speak to you all tomorrow!!!!
