Scott Oats BJJ Instructor
Scott is an avid martial artist with over 10 years of experience. He is currently a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under 6X World Champion Saulo Ribeiro. Scott has competed both on the National and International level and has won numerous Gold Medals in Regional and State level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitions. He also holds a Brown Belt in Judo. Scott is an experienced former Navy SEAL and 18 Delta Combat Medic as well as a Nationally certified Paramedic. Scott is also a French linguist. Throughout his career as a member of SEAL Team 2, he participated in several highly volatile combat situations in Kosovo and Albania as well as Africa. Scott has instructed BJJ, Judo and Self Defense to military, law enforcement and civilians alike. He has also instructed hand-to-hand courses to several foreign military units including a combatives course which he taught to Cote D’Ivorian military personnel in French. Scott was also a member of Team Bravo on Mark Burnett’s (Creator of “Survivor”) Combat Reality Show, “Combat Missions”.
Hybrid Academy Brazilian Jiu JItsu has the unique privilege of being one of only 3 Saulo Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu Association Affiliates on the East Coast. The Association is headed by 6X World Champion Saulo Ribeiro and his brother, now also 6X World Champion, Xande Ribeiro.
Saulo Ribeiro - Saulo Ribeiro began his training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) in Rio De Janeiro in 1992 under Royler Gracie, the son of Helio Gracie, at the legendary Gracie Humaitá gym in Rio. He received his black belt on November 27, 1995. Saulo is one of the world's best competitors, combining both gi and no-gi in the last decade.

Saulo has conducted seminars in Europe, Abu Dhabi, Japan, as well as the U.S. and Brazil. He operates the University of Jiu Jitsu in San Diego, CA. He has appeared in every major grappling magazine in the world. Saulo is the only Black Belt to ever win the World Championships as a Black Belt 6X. He is also the only Black Belt to win the World Championships in every weight class. He has the #1 Best Selling Instructional DVD Set (BJJ Revolution 1) as well as his 2 other sets; Freestyle Revolution (No Gi) and BJJ Revolution 2 as well as the Author of his new book, Jiu-Jitsu University. He is the most highly decorated BJJ Fighter ever. He is also still active which keeps him on the cutting edge of what is happening in Combat Sports (MMA, Sport Jiu Jitsu & Submission Grappling) which are constantly changing and evolving. He is currently training his brother Xande Ribeiro (Now 6X World Champion and reigning 2008 Absolute BJJ Champion) and Diego Sanchez, Not to mention a lot of up and coming athletes. He has positioned himself in the epi-center of everything that is going on in the MMA world by moving to San Diego and opening the 1st University of Jiu Jitsu. He is also a Medal of honor award from Fernando Henrique Cardoso (President of Brazil).
People from all associations and instructors come from all over the US and from all over the world to train with him and his brother because of his accomplishments, but also because he is a master at teaching and instructing. He stays away from low percentage high flying acrobatic techniques that work for 1% of the most athletic fighters 1% of the time. Rather, he focuses on teaching dominating positions that crush opponents until they give up exactly what you want.
