Later, Jonas proceeded to open his 2nd school in Manhattan on Broadway Avenue.

Shihan Jonas Nuñez Jr.
Shihan Jonas Nuñez Jr. is the Director and founder of the America's Finest Karate and Kickboxing Academy with locations throughout the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut tri-state area.
The following is a brief history of Jonas' martial arts background:

Jonas was born in Manhattan in 1960 to Jonas Nuñez Sr. and Lita Feliciano Nuñez. His parents moved from Manhattan to the Bronx and thus at age four he began his martial arts training.

Jonas started his training under Sifu BOB MAHONEY in the style of Shaolin Kempo Kung Fu. At the age of nine years old he become an assistant instructor for the children's class until Sifu MAHONEY made a pilgrimage to China and decided to remain there.

Young Jonas' efforts to continue his martial arts training led him to Sensei Elliot Soto a 4th Degree Black belt in the Urban Goju-Ryu System. After numerous years with Sensei Soto, Jonas Nuñez Jr. received his 3rd Degree Black Belt. At the same time when not practicing Goju-Ryu Karate, Jonas started studying Mudukwan Korean Karate with Sabomnim Frank Santiago (a DEA Officer in the Bronx) and David Gonzalez his best student. Eventually this additional training earned him a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Korean Karate.

During his training, Jonas began competing in local and national tournaments in Karate and Kickboxing. While competing in the Ying Yee Karate/Kung Fu Championship (promoted by Kyoshi Archie Rullen), he met another competitor Tommy Chen. Mr. Chen was currently the East Coast top Forms and Weapons champion and a top rated semi-contact and full contact fighter. Mr. Chen invited Jonas to his Dojo in Brooklyn under the direction of Dennis Chen (Tommy's father), where they taught an Okinawan system of karate called Shindo-Ryu Karate-Do. Jonas decided that Master Chen was a complete and well-rounded martial artist and thus began his training in Shindo-Ryu in 1978. Two years later (in 1980), Jonas received his 2nd degree Black belt under Master Chen and opened his first school in the Northern Bronx.

Promotion to 8th Degree Black Belt

In 2001 at the Oriental World Self Defense and Kickboxing Championships (held at Madison Square Garden), Grand Master Aaron Banks and Kyoshi Tommy Chen promoted Jonas to 8th Degree Black Belt for his continuing efforts in promoting and competing in martial arts.

Jonas continues to promote and compete in all aspects of the martial arts and has
produced 7 World Kickboxing Champions.
Some of his students now operate successful schools in Connecticut, Florida and California.
