I learned my first Heavyweight title fight in December, 1997 after my match against kickboxer Maurice Smith.
On November 17th, 2000 I took the Heavyweight title a second time from Kevin Randleman. I was then victorious in both classic battles against Brazilian fighter Pedro Rizzo in 2001.
I TKO’d long-time number one contender Chuck Liddell in his debut into the Light-Heavyweight class, leaving me as the only competitor to hold titles in both the Heavyweight and Light-Heavyweight divisions of the UFC. This earned me my nickname “Captain America”.
My next bout was against five-time defending champion Tito Ortiz for the Undisputed Light-Heavyweight title. After 5 rounds, at the age of 40, “The Natural” scored a unanimous decision and became the UFC’s Undisputed Light-Heavyweight Champion, literally spanking Tito in the octagon.
At the age of 43, I defeated then-champion Tim Sylvia at UFC 68 by unanimous decision to claim his third UFC heavyweight title.

On August 25, 2007, at UFC 74 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, I defended my title against Gabriel Gonzaga, who previously defeated Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipović at UFC 70 to become the number one contender. In the fight, I defeated Gabriel Gonzaga by TKO (strikes) to retain my championship

In 1997, at the age of 33, I made my debut into the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) where I defeated Tony Halme and Steven Graham in the Heavyweight class. I then scored a TKO victory against Brazilian “Phenom” Vitor Belfort. This is where my nickname “The Natural” came to be.

On June 24, 2006 I was the fourth fighter to be inducted into the UFC Hall Of Fame, alongside Royce Gracie, Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock.
At that point I took a place in the UFC announcing booth and began full time pursing a career in the pictures. But watching Tim Sylvia's lackluster Heavyweight Title defense against Jeff Monson, I got the itch to get back in the Octagon.
On March 3 , 2007 I dominated Tim Sylvia, shutting him out on the scorecards. With the victory I became the first man to win the UFC Heavyweight title three times.
