I want to be a 4th Degree Black Belt. I don't want to be the best just able to defend my self well on the street and maybe win a competition or two if that's what I decide later in my life.

You must login before viewing my schools.

I'm currently a White Belt at the American Jiu Jitsu Center in St.James since I recently joined. I hope to be 4th Degree Black Belt one day and to go to Stony brook University that way I can still go to the American Jiu Jitsu Center. I know a decent amount of techniques from many different styles but I've never tried mastering any particular one till now. I'm going to work in Digital Security hopefully I'll be a well paid Ethical Hacker or Security Administrator. I do some programming in C but I'm not as good as I used to be because I don't use it that much for Ethical Hacking. I'll know Java and Perl too by the time I graduate college. I read SAT, Digital Security and Martial Arts books. I lift weights a lot too.

I go to class twice a week. I know most of my Belt Techniques and I practice sometimes with my Dad. I read MA books too; I have The Path To The Black Belt(Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) by Kid Peligro and Rodrigo Gracie. Canon of Judo by Kyuzo Mifune. Kodokan Judo: The Essential Guide to Judo by Its Founder Jigoro Kano. Mastering Wing Chun Kung Fu by Samuel Kwok. I've only finished The Path To The Black Belt. And I'm reading Canon of Judo along with a big SAT book right now.

American Jiu-Jitsu primarily.

The Japanese terminology should be at the end of you list, but we don't quiz you on those when you test.  The next belt test will be at the end of September.

Every time you test for a black belt, you have to write a paper before you can test.  The topic varies for each degree.  For shodan (first degree), the topic is "How jiu jitsu has affected your life."

I'm not familiar with that book.  In my experience, books about technique are better for reference than learning (although you can still learn from them, of course).  There are also several good books about the warrior mentality that may interest you.

no the highest u can go in junior black is black belt with a brown stripe, which is like 8th, then u get a senior black belt (1st degree). I am pretty sure Matt has black with a brown stripe, but i haven't talked to him in a while.

Daryl is my first name, hence Sensei Daryl.  To become a sensei, you have to become a black belt (which takes about four to five years) and you have to take our instructor certification course.

The second defensive stance is left backfist, right punch, right front shin kick, right knee and right elbow.  Next time you come to class, ask whoever is at the desk if they can make you a copy of your belt requirements.  Everything is spelled out in them so you can study it.

yea i'm a junior black belt with an orange stripe, which is the thrid belt in the junior black belt series.  I have known Matt Rego for years- i used to train with him before he went into the adult class with his dad and sister.  I knew of James, but never really knew him personally

yea that kid matt with the black hair had a brownbelt.  He is just below my level, the series of junior black belts- you cant get a senior black belt, like daryl has (3rd degree) until you're at least 16.  I take the leadership class, it i s a mixture of kids from the teen class, and younger kids, as young as 8.  It is taught by O'sensei, and teaches you things that will help you in jiu jitsu and life.  You learn how to assist for the little kids classes, and things like that.  You should check it out, it helps build up confidence so it really helps you out of jiu jitsu

Stony Brook is a good school, let me know if you have any questions about it (although I don't know anyone who is in the computer science program).  The defensive stance is left front snapping kick, right punch, right knee and right elbow.

I'm good, thanks.  I'll show you all the techniques you need to know when I see you in class, it will be much easier for you to see them than for me to type them out.  You need to know about a dozen techniques (with someone attacking you) and a few grappling positions.
