Extreme Lacosta has trained diligently in twelve different martial arts, studying many from Western boxing, Chinese boxing, Grappling, the Wing Chung, Hingse Ba Gua, and Sayoc Kali, (art of the blade under Christopher Castaneda Sayoc, Sr.). Lacosta was a natural in the art of Muay Thai, though, actually discovering Muay Thai while in a street fight in his adolescent years. He was using elbows and knees. Elbow striking seemed like a common sense tactic to Lacosta. Consequently, this revelation resulted in many victorious fights.

While training under Tom Bisio, an internal master and bone setter, Extreme learned locking and trapping techniques. He learned how to use inner strength through the Ba Gua. He has been called the 'elbow specialist'.

Extreme grew up in the 1970's on the mean streets of New York City's Lower East Side Bowery. A large part of my adolescence was spent in the 12th Street Boxing Gym as a sparring partner for teenage competitors of the Golden Gloves.

I practiced under numerous great masters including Chaka Zulu and Ron Van Clief, the Black Dragon. Master Chaka Zulu, who now teaches Zujitsu (an art created by Zulu) was my first master.

In 1981, Extreme earned his black belt in Chinese Goju under Sensei Alfredo Rodan.
In 1992, he earned his black belt in American Freestyle under the late John Black. Extreme thanks his masters and instructors for their time and knowledge but credits himself as being an independent and self-taught martial artist.
In 1992, he designed his own complete martial arts system known as "The Extreme Muay Thai 1 through 9 System". The art is based to a great extent on the principles of traditional Muay Thai and incorporates Grappling, American Freestyle, Arnis, and a number of techniques from the other martial arts styles listed above. Extreme Muay Thai is unique in that it strongly emphasizes the use of internal power, or power generated from the use of one's center.
Extreme Lacosta is currently training with the open-minded Rodrigo Gracie, two-time Pride winner and part of the Gracie legacy. Lacosta is looking forward to competing in a no holds barred competition in the near future.
Extreme would also like to mention that his record would be undefeated if not for a fight he took on while injured with a broken toe, pinched nerve and a tear in his rotator cuff. He lost the fight by a decision. He only took the fight because he felt obligated after selling $5,000 worth of tickets. If asked if he would like a rematch he responds, "Why would I want to fight someone who couldn't take me out with one arm and all my other injuries?"

Muay Thai originated in Thailand and has been the national sport there. There have always been four major components to Thai boxing:

1) punches
2) knees
3) elbows
4) kicks

99% of all classes are taught by Extreme Lacosta. All classes are an hour long. We recommend arriving to class about 20 minutes beforehand to stretch and warm up. The first half of the class involves Extreme's 1 through 9 System using cardio for weight loss and increasing stamina. The second half of the class is pad work. Beginners to advanced students are welcomed to all classes. We match you up accordingly.

Little Dragons Ages 5 - 10

Our Little Dragons program helps small children learn to be fit, protect themselves, and have more confidence and self-esteem. Extreme also works with children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. Our numbers system teaches children to use their minds as well as their bodies in the martial arts.

Juniors Ages 10 - 16

The Junior classes make up the future of Muay Thai. They are our fighters of tomorrow. Several of our Juniors are current undefeated amateur fighters. Sifu Lacosta has a different tone with his Juniors than with the Little Dragons classes. He gives them the needed discipline and knows when to show them love as well. Concerned parents bring their kids to Extreme to develop into respectable hard-working individuals. We have seen complete turn-arounds from many troubled youths labeled 'juvenile delinquents'. They become some of our best students.

Adult Muay Thai

Our adult program meets in the mornings as well as the evening. Classes are co-ed. On Mondays, we concentrate on lower body combinations. On Wednesdays, we specialize in upper body techniques. And on Fridays, whatever you learned on Monday and Wednesday are combined for a total body workout.

You do not need to have any prior experience or training to enjoy our program. Quickly you will see results and feel the difference our unique 1 through 9 system offers.

Fighters feel right at home at Extreme Muay Thai. This is the place where Champions are made. If you are an experienced martial artist, we will perfect your technique and you will learn a proven unbeatable system both in the ring and in the street.

We give special preference to those in law enforcement as several of our current members include NYPD and Nassau County Police Dept., State Troopers, and Drug Enforcement Agents.

Women's Muay Thai Kickboxing

Our women's only Muay Thai class meets once a week on Thursday nights. This class is excellent for helping women learn the type of training that is specific to their needs. We focus on ground fighting and rape prevention techniques.

Extreme Lacosta's Boxing

The gym is open to those members who would just like to learn to box. Open gym is available six days a week. Our facilities include speed bags, heavy bags, double end balls and any other equipment you would see at a world-class boxing gym. Experienced coaches are always ready to assist with combinations.

Try a private one-on-one lesson with Extreme Lacosta. Take it to the next level!

In 2001, Lacosta became the Lightweight Champion in Muay Thai Kickboxing. He now holds two Championship belts.
